Breakdown: This year’s freshman class was a great one. It yielded 2 state champs, 2 runner-ups, a plethora of state placers. While there are several good freshman there is a clear choice here. Two wins over a defending state champion, one by bonus, and an undefeated season capped off by a state title gives Crown Point’s Jesse Mendez the award here. He has been phenomenal all season, and dominated a tough weight class that had 2 state champions in it. Jesse looks to put his name up there with the greats from Indiana, and is on his way with this stellar freshman year.
