First round match-ups
Monrovia vs New Haven
Monrovia got pulled in after another team was forced to drop out of the tournament. Monrovia is undefeated but I haven’t really been tested yet this year. I see that being the deciding factor here.
New Haven advances
Wawasee vs Jay County
Wawasse has been a tough team the past few seasons, but lost a lot from last year. Jay County has a great group of young guys at those lower weights but not too much up top. Both teams have issues giving up quality decisions up top so they need to make sure those guys are ready to go because that’s where the dual will be won. Jay County has done great in duals this year so I have to give them the nod here.
Jay County advances
New Prairie vs Oak Hill
Oak Hill is a point away from being undefeated this year. They have beaten up on several teams that will be wrestling this weekend. They are the favorite here and will roll in this match.
Oak Hill advances
Norwell vs Jimtown
Jimtown has been a proven commodity for the last few years and they should expect to advance in this match up. They have tough guys throughout their lineup but most importantly they have solid big guys. I have always believed that teams with good big guys are always good.
Jimtown advances
Second Round
Bellmont vs New Haven
Bellmont has way too much fire power for New Haven and will roll into the semi-finals, which they should since they were rightfully given the top seed.
Bellmont advances
Mount Vernon (Posey) vs Jay County
This is an interesting matchup to me because MV has wrestled a lot of tough 4A teams and while they have taken their lumps, they have been competitive in most of those dual. On the other hand though, Jay County has been rolling teams this year. Looking at mutual opponents, MV beat the team that gave Jay County its only loss on the year, and I know wrestling math rarely works but I am taking MV here.
Mount Vernon (Posey) advances
Western vs Oak Hill
This may end up being the most competitive dual of the round. Western should win this dual with their “hammers” getting plenty of quality decisions to put this dual away.
Western advances
Garrett vs Jimtown
Garrett has a good team with solid lower weights. Usually the team that has the most “guaranteed” wins will win the dual and I don’t like the idea of Jimtown having to win a bunch of swing matches to be able to win this dual.
Garrett advances
Semi-finals
Bellmont vs Mount Vernon (Posey)
If MV can keep it competitive at the lower weights they can have a chance when they get to those upper weights. I honestly can see that happening with them stealing a match or two then rolling at the up top.
Mount Vernon (Posey) advances
Garrett vs Western
Western has more top level guys than Garrett and more matches where they are heavy favorites to win. Garrett will pick up their falls at the first few weights but after that I Western taking over this dual and I know that it is unlikely, but neither of the top seeded teams make the finals in this class
Western advances
Finals
MV is a team with no really big names, but they are one of the most complete teams here. Western will win the matches they are supposed to, and so will MV but I see Wildcats winning most of the swing matches. Their schedule has them battle tested and is the difference in them winning a state title here.
