With last years champ up at 120 now, this weight will have a new king come Saturday night. Brownsburg Logan Miller has risen to being ranked 1st in the state and has the wins to back that ranking up. Miller has wins over the #2 and #3 ranked kids in the state this season. I look for Miller to continue to dominate and win this weight Saturday. Good early round matches in this weight are between Reed Egli of Evansville Mater Dei, who was a borderline rankable guy most of the year, and Lou Knable of Floyd Central. Another match in that first round to watch is Center Grove’s Michael LaRocca and Crawford County’s Donnie Feeler. In the ticket round we get the rubber match between Coy Hammack, Tell City, and Blake Zirklebach, North Posey, who have split matches this year. Hammack lost a close 9-8 decision earlier this year before pinning Zirklebach later in the year. While I do not think he will have much trouble; Cash Turner of Edgewood does have a tough opponent in Whiteland’s Elijah Brooks. I see Kyler west beating whoever comes out of the Feeler/LaRocca match and being the 4th guy out at this weight.

This weight is a 3 man race as far as who can come away with a title here. Evansville Mater Dei’s Cole Ross is currently ranked 2nd in the state, and has a close win over Sullivan’s Lane Gilbert, who he should see in the finals on Saturday. First, though, Gilbert will have a tough Logan Sutton, Castle, waiting for him in the ticket round. The biggest ticket round match, in my opinion, is at the top of the bracket between Brownsburg’s Braiden Haines and Columbus East’s Noah Lykins. Both come in with several loses from wrestling a tough schedule this year, and both come from programs that have found a lot of success getting guys downtown. Cheaney Schoeff of Avon should roll into the semi where he will meet Gilbert. Ross should roll into the finals regardless of who wins between Lykins and Haines. This weight is a hard one to pick even with Ross having already beat Sullivan. We’re going to stay chalk and go with he rankings here.

Alec Freeman, Evansville Mater Dei, comes in looking to claim his second semi-state title. Freeman is the favorite at this weight but has a solid field in front of him. Freshman Delaney Ruhlman of Bloomington South took care of business last weak in the regional and put himself in a great position to make it to the bank. Ruhlman will wrestle the winner of returning state qualifier Chris Newman, Mount Vernon (Posey), and Jake Bechert of Franklin Community. Brownsburg’s Gavin Garcia has been solid all year and is a tough out for anyone in the state. 1 loss Colin Knox of Charlestown will wrestler the winner of Garcia and Sam Scott, Heritage Hills, who has been right there the past couple of years. I look for him to get over that hump this year and make it to the bank his senior year. If you told me a Carrington would be going downtown, I would’ve assumed it to be Brach, but little brother Chase comes in with 1 loss and is favorited to make it downtown as a freshman. Chase will have a tough Aydan Amento, Evansville Central, first round.

This is probably the toughest weight at any semi-state. 5 top 10 ranked kids in the weight, including a ticket round between two top 5 wrestlers. As tough as this weight is though, Avon’s Ray Rioux is still the big favorite to win this weight. The first round won’t be too exciting due to the skill gap between the top guys at this weight and the field. In the ticket round, however, we have a lot to look forward too. The big one being a rematch of last years 3rd place state match between Gavinn Alstott, Floyd Central, and Ben Dalton of Monrovia. Dalton took his first loss last weekend to Brownsburg Kysen Montgomery giving him this draw. I cannot imagine this is the draw Alstott wanted either. Montgomery has a tough Adonis Boyd from Jeffersonville but Kysen has already been to the bank and wrestled the best in the state and should roll into the semis. Evansville Mater Dei’s Ashton Hayhurst missed weight last year at sectionals but looks comfortable at 126 for the Wildcats. Hayhurst will, probably, wrestle Nicolas Castelluccio of Bloomington South in the ticket round and should make his first trip to the bank. In the finals we could see two “undefeated” wrestlers, as neither has lost to an Indiana kid this year. In the 3rd place match we see a rematch from team state where Montgomery came out on top.

This is another weight with a crazy ticket round match. This weight could give us our first 4 over a 1. Decatur Central’s Conner Alcala is battle tested and could knock off a regional champ in Chase Aldridge, Providence. Alcala will have to wrestle two great matches, with Heritage Hill’s Beau Heeke and West Vigo’s Seth Rohrbach facing the winner. Center Grove’s Hayden Watson is my pick to win this weight. Watson has a tough junior in Christian Polen, Gibson Southern, but I look for him to cruise into the finals. That third quarter bracket is wide open anyone could come out of it. I am leaning towards Plainfield’s Conner Holt due to who he has wrestled and the guys he has beaten this year. The bottom quarter bracket gives us another top 5 match-up with two returning state qualifiers. Both Kane Egli, Evansville Mater Dei, and Tyler Conley, Avon, lost close matches last year to place. Egli and Coney wrestled earlier this year with Egli winning a 3-2 decision. While the score was close Egli controlled the match and this match should look the same way. Whoever wins there should cruise into the finals to meet Watson.

Evansville Mater Dei’s Blake Boarman comes in looking to take home his first semi-state title. To do so he will have to beat someone who has beaten him this year in Brownsburg’s Drake Campbell. For the second year in a row, Boarman’s weight has seen the two best kids on the same side of the bracket. As far as first round matches go, do not let Colton Roberts’s record think he doesn’t have a chance here. Roberts has wrestled the best kids in the state and can go with anyone. I do not see either Roberts or Pat Mayes, Boonville, beating JJ Conaway from Floyd Central. Conaway has 1 loss this year, coming to Blake Boarman. Landon Boe, Plainfield, got a great draw and could make it out. Boe should wrestle Columbus East’s Jacob Shaver, who is another wrestler with a deceiving record. Boarman will get his revenge in the semis and capture his first semi-state crown over Conaway. Campbell will settle for 3rd, with the little Boe making his first trip to the bank.

This weight is deep and the top quarter bracket at this weight is real tough. We have a ranked match-up right away between Evansville Mater Dei’s Brody Baumann and West Vigo’s Jonathan Otte. I see Baumann coming away with the win here. It does not get any easier from there, though, as he will wrestle the winner of 16th ranked Nick Cicciarelli, Brownsburg, and Shane Braunecker, Tell City. Bloomington North’s Justice Cash won his regional last week and is in a good spot to make his first trip downtown. Cash should see Riley Rust, Center Grove, in the ticket round but should have very little issues getting into the semis. Jaden Reynolds, Avon, is a returning state placer and I cannot see anyone in this bracket stopping him from making the finals at this weight. Tyler Williams, Columbus East, is a tough first round match, but he has been hit or miss a lot this year, so you never really know what you’ll get from him. That bottom quarter bracket is another one that is wide open. Brown County’s David Tucker is the only ranked guy down there, but he is far from a favorite. Tucker will have a well-coached Ethan Nash, Franklin Community first round, with the winner of Ian Geisler, Jasper, and Tristan Martin, North Posey waiting for him. I think Baumann’s schedule has set him up for a strong postseason run and look for him to win this weight. Baumann and Reynolds have split matches this year so I could either way here in the finals. David Tucker should make it though the ticket round before settling for 4th behind Justice Cash.

This is another weight where, in my opinion, the two best kids in the weight are on the same side of the bracket. Floyd Central’s Jonathan Kervin, a returning state placer, will look to make another trip to the bank. In his way is Evansville Mater Dei’s Scott Fitts, a 2018 state qualifier, and Ben Phillips of Charlestown. Logan Boe, Danville, has made it to the bank every year so far and I do not see that changing this year. This weight could have 4 guys in the semis with a combined record of 142-2. Jordan Fulks, Boonville, has jump levels, and weights, this year and looks to continue his undefeated season. Fulks should wrestle Kade Law, Columbus East, in the semi finals in a must win for both guy since the loser there will probably settle for 4th place. I see two undefeated guys wrestling in the finals with Boe winning the battle of unbeatens.

Evansville Mater Dei’s Eli Dickens returns up a weight to win another semi-state title. The top ranked wrestler in the state has been dominate this year and even a tough as the field is should get though unscathed. Franklin Community’s Tyler Fuqua was a state qualifier in 2018 but will have to get through Dickens if he wants to make another trip downtown. Columbus East’s Sam Morrill comes in as a regional champ and has given himself a good draw to make it to the bank. Morrill should match-up with Bloomington South’s Wade Presson who is trying to get back downtown after qualifying in 2018. Super freshman John Purdy, Castle, had a slip up last week but it gave him a better draw. Purdy should cruise in the semis where he will wrestle Brownsburg’s Peyton Asbury. Asbury the returning state placer may take 4th here as I do not like his chances against Purdy, and he has already lost to Morrill this year.

6 ranked guys headline this weight. Freshman Van Skinner comes in as a regional champ, but the draws did not do him any favors, giving him 6th ranked, and returning state qualifier, Gabe Sollars of Evansville Mater Dei. Greencastle’s Brach Carrington picked a bad time to take his first loss, as it resulted in him drawing into Tristan Ruhlman of Bloomington South in the ticket round. I do not see him being able to go Ruhlman. Jalen Ward, Franklin Community, picked up a big win in last weeks regional finals and has a great draw to make it downtown. Owen Sego, Indian Creek, has had a solid year up at 170, but has a tough ticket round match against Robert Deters, a returning state placer from Castle. Sego has the skill to go with anyone, but I think Deters will be a bit too much for him. After the ticket round I see Deter beating Ward to make the finals. Up top we see another Sollars, Ruhlman match. Sollars has owned the series and I see him having that same edge here as he makes the finals. In the finals I look for Deters to get his first semi-state title.

Macartney Parkinson, Evansville Mater Dei, picked up a state medal last year but will be looking to win his first semi-state and head to Banker’s Life as a 1. The best first round match at this weight is the one between Terre Haute South’s Brendan McPike and 2018 state qualifier Brenden Moore. The winner of this match should have no issues in the ticket round. Parkinson will have a ranked match-up in the ticket round, but he should handle Greg Glover, Brownsburg as he heads to the semis. Columbus East’s Noah White comes in with 5 loses all to kids ranked ahead of him. He should win his half of the bracket on his way to the finals. Sophomore Drake Buchanan, Center Grove, has jump up 5 weight classes and has looked great this year. Buchanan should cruise into his semi-finals match with White, making his first trip downtown. This weight is should fall the way the rankings have them. Phoenix Rodgers, Heritage Hills, comes in after losing regionals to 5th ranked McKinley Kemper, Evansville Central, but should still roll into the finals at this weight. Isaiah Street, Brownsburg, will have a tough ticket round match against Jeffersonville’s Cody Matherly. Street has wrestled tougher guys this year and I think it will show in this match. On the bottom side of the bracket is the favorite to win the weight in Kemper. I don’t see him having much of a match before the semis. There he should wrestle Franklin Community’s Harris Eason. Eason has had a great year this year and looks to continue it this weekend. Eason will have to settle for a possible 3rd place finish here.

Nathan Willman, North Posey, was a 113 as a freshman, out his sophomore year, came back as a 182-pounder last year, and up at 220 now as a senior. Willman has looked great all year and will be looking to take his first trip to the bank. He will first have to beat the big freshman out of Brownsburg, Leighton Jones. Cordell Heuring is a favorite in his match even though he finished 4th at the regional a week ago. Returning state placer, Will Stewart of South Spencer, and returning state qualifier, Josh Howell of Terre Haute South, are set to meet in the ticket round. I am going with the returning state placer in this match. On the bottom side of the bracket a 1 loss Micah Dodson, Martinsville, will have a tough Macray Robinson, Gibson Southern, in the ticket round. Returning State Champ, Dorian Keys of Brownsburg, comes back to claim his second straight title this weekend. Keys should find little competition this weekend regardless of the scores, I do not see anyone really threatening him this weekend. Bloomington North’s Race Stewart and Avon’s Ke’Tre Dickens meet first round this weekend. While Stewart is the favorite here don’t count out Dickens pulling off the upset here. Jeffersonville’s returning state qualifier Mark Munoz will have his hands full in the ticket round against Robert Gentry of Mooresville. Gentry is the last Indiana guy to beat Keys. In that bottom quarter bracket Franklin Community’s Jacob Johnson has been right there with the best kids in the state and has a chance here to make it to the bank as a sophomore.
