HOOSIERMAT 106 WEIGHT PREVIEW

Cathedral junior Evan Dickey has made big strides year over year and comes into the season as the top guy in this weight class. He is not, however, anything close to a runaway favorite to win this weight class. I could see about 10 guys walking away with a title when it is all said and done, depending on who gets hot at the right time. Crown Point’s Anthony Bahl will be big for this weight class and, assuming weight is not an issue, should right around the top of the heap in February. Bahl comes in ranked 2nd with a win over #3 Hayden Brady in the offseason.  Brady fell victim to a headlock on Friday night in a match he was controlling the whole time. Brady, like Bahl, will be a taller, longer 106 pounder and will give guys fits at the weight. Other guys who have been to state at this weight are River Forrest’s Jeffrey Bailey, East Noble’s Keegan Malott, and Lake Central’s Johnny Cortez. Some freshman to watch out for in this weight are 5th ranked Preston Haines, Brownsburg, and 11th ranked Kyrel Leavell, Warren Central. Haines has proven himself to be a legit threat at this weight already through offseason tournaments. Leavell is on the other end of it, since he plays football, he has not been able to wrestle much and to raise his ranking. Other guys to watch at this weight are Southport’s Nathan Smith who has a win over last years 8thplacer, and Perry Meridian’s Toby Billerman who has a resume of good wins in the last year.
