106 Perry Meridian sophomore, Toby Billerman, has navigated his high school career thus far without tasting defeat, and it would be hard for me to say that that happens this weekend. Billerman is a tough match-up in a lot of places, but he really thrives from neutral. Billerman would most likey meet is "nemesis" Nathan Smith, Southport, in the finals. Smith is tough every match because of what he can do on top. Billerman has picked up a close victory over Smith not too long ago. Also in this weight is Warren senior Zac Dray. Dray had a tough first round match up at the regional last year, ending his season earlier than he wanted. Also in this weight class is Roncalli's Braden Getz who brings in an undefeated record, and Lutheran's Clayton Hughes. Ranked Wrestlers: #7 Toby Billerman-Perry Meridian #8 Nathan Smith-Southport #13 Zac Dray-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Toby Billerman 113 In my opinion two guys are in the race at this weight. Perry Meridian sophomore is undefeated and has a binch of solid wins under his already this season, On the other side of the brack though, is Warren Central freshman Kyrel Leavell. Leavell, like Morton, has a good amount of solid wins already. These two win matches, but don't always do it in the "prettiest" way. Similar to the expected final at 106, you have one wrestler who is a really tough match-up on his feet, Leavell, and one who is a hammer on top, Morton. Ranked Wrestlers: #8 Keaton Morton-Perry Meridian #9 Kyrell Leavell-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Keaton Morton 120 Three trips, three titles. Perry Meridian senior Alex Cottey looks to become the 5th wreslter to win 4 marion county championships. Cottey, like the previous three years, is a huge favorite again to walk away with a title. On the other side of the bracket is Warren Central senior Carlton Perry. Perry has made the county finals the last two years and wreslted Cottey in 2018. Ranked Wrestlers: #1 Alex Cottey-Roncalli #9 Carlton Perry-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Alex Cottey 126 Its been four years since a Lowery has taken a loss at the Marion County Tournament, and I see Roncalli sophomore Bryce Lowery keeping that streak alive. The bottom side of this bracket is tough with three guys good enough to make the finals. Franklin Central's Ashton Brandon is probably the best of the bunch. Brandon is tough and pretty big for the weight, but has some up-and-down results at times. Another guy to watch is Warren Central's Dason Tichenor. Tichenor is a good athlete and wrestled Lowery tough the last time these two wreslted. The third guy at the bottom is Lawrence North's Jeremiah Henderson. Henderson has been around and has shown he can beat guys, but, like Brandon, he has up-and-down results as well. Ranked Wrestlers: #5 Bryce Lowery - Roncali #13 Dason Tichenor-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Bryce Lowery 132 Top ranked David Pierson, Warren Central, is the favorite to come away with another county title. Similar to his teammate, Pierson has been in the finals the previous two years, but has walked away with a title both times. On the opposite side is returning stat qualifier, Anthony Hughes from Lawrence North. Hughes hasn't seemed like the same guy since moving up in weight, but he is still a tough out everytime he steps on the mat. Ranked Wrestlers: #1 David Pierson-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - David Pierson 138 This weight is absolutely loaded. Three returning state qualifeirs, and two placers, come in at this weight. Perry Meridian's Matthew Koontz comes in as a the favorite to win this weight class. Koont is a returning state runner-up and is looking for his first county championship, On his side of the Bracket is an undefeated Kody Glithero from Roncalli. While Koontz is a heavy favorite in this match, Glithero has shown he can pull off big upsets against Perry guys. On the bottom side of the bracket, you have Decatr Central's Conner Alcala and Southport's Luke Goodwin. Goodwin is a returning state placer who has a unique stlye that gives guys fits. Ranked Wrestlers: #3 (at 132) Matthew Koontz-Perry Meridian #8 Luke Goodwin-Southport #9 Conner Alcala-Decatur Central #13 Kody Glithero-Roncalli HOOSIERMAT PICK - Matthew Koontz 145 This is another weight where there are two guys above the field. Warren Central's Jevian Ross has had a solid career and is looking to add a county title to his resume. Ross is dangerous on his feet and is capable of ending a match in a flash. While Ross has a high ceiling he has a low floor as well and has moments where he wrestles well below his abilities. On the bottom side of the bracket is Perry Meridian senior Brady McKivitz. McKivitz has been hot thus far in the season and looks to keep it roling into the county tournament. McKivitz, like Ross, is really dangerous on his feet. Other wreslters to watch in this bracket is Roncalli's Zach Wilson who has yeat to drop a match this year. Ranked Wrestlers: #10 Jevian Ross-Warren Central #11 Brady McKivitz-Perry Meridian HOOSIERMAT PICK - Brady McKivitz 152 Returning state runner up JaJuan Anderson, Warren Central, is the favorite at this weight. Anderson is a guy that is tough everywhere and is really stingy from neutral, not giving up a bunch of points. The guy I expect to make the finals opposite of Anderson is actually the 3-seed, Jakob Sheet from Perry Meridian. Sheets has been in and out of the rankings this year, but I see him rolling here into the finals. Ranked Wrestlers: #3 JaJuan Anderson-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - JaJuan Anderson 160 This weight has no real favorites, and while Warren Central's Tyler Jones is coming off a year where he placed downtown he has been beaten by a guy in this bracket. Ben Davis senior Kailan Keith ran into a tough wreslter first round of regionals and had his season ended early. Keith has put on some size and has been wresltling well. Keith also picked up a win over Jones this offseason. A guy that can't be overlooked at this weight is Mark Everman, Decatur Central. Everman is unbeaten this year and has had some tight matches with some of the best guys in the state. Ranked Wrestlers: #11 Kailan Keith-Ben Davis #12 Tyler Jones-Warren Central #16 Mark Everman-Decatur Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Kailan Keith 170 While his record is decieving, Perry Meridian's JaJuan Dale is the favorite at this weight. Dale has wrestled several ranked wrestlers alrealdy this year and has been right there with the top guys. The top seed at this weight is Franklin Central's Gino Mosconi. Mosconi has the talent to go with a lot of guys, but sometimes lets his emotions get the better of him in matches. Other wrestlers in this weight to watch are Warren Central's Jaylin Summers. Ranked Wrestlers: #9 JaJuan Dale-Perry Meridian HOOSIERMAT PICK - JaJuan Dale 182 Perry Meridian senior Aiden Warren is the favorite to walk away with his third county title this weekend. Warren has looked like the top ranked wrestler in the state early on this season, will look to continue to dominate this weekend. On the bottom side of the bracket we should have a rematch of of the John Hurrle finals between Southport's Gage Nelson and Warren Central's Keon Sullivan. Sullivan beat Nelson 8-7 in that match. Ranked Wrestlers: #1 Aiden Warren-Perry Meridian #11 Keon Sullivan-Warren Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Aiden Warren 195 This is another weight where there is a standout favorite. Lutheran's Hayden Filipovich is a returing state placer who is looking to capture his first county title up at 195 after finishing second the past two years t 182. The wreslter most likely to prevent that is Perry Meridian sophomore Ronin Hammond. Hammond is a pinner and is good at putting guys away. While I think Filipovich is too much for Hammond at this point, the Falcon is dangerous on his feet and good at putting macthes away. Ranked Wrestlers: #4 Hayden Filipovich-Lutheran HOOSIERMAT PICK - Hayden Filipovich 220 Perry Meridian’s Jeff McClure has one loss on th year, but it is to the guy at the top of this bracket. Franklin Central's Aataeveon Jordan has been waiting his turn and is making the most of his first year of varsity action. Jordon beat McClure early this year, 13-3 at the Capital City Classic, and looks to win this third match-up between the two to claim his first county title. Ranked Wrestlers: #8 Aataeveon Jordan-Franklin Central #11 Jeff McClure-Perry Meridian HOOSIERMAT PICK - Aataeveon Jordan 285 While there are tough guys in this weight I do not see anyone beating Franklin Central's Antone Alexander. Alexander looks to capture back-to-back county titles. One the bottom side you have two guys that come in with one loss each. North Central's Makhi Watts is a solid athlete and has been steadily improving. The other wrestler is Pike's Amara Kaba who comes in as the second seed. Ranked Wrestlers: #6 Antone Alexander-Franklin Central HOOSIERMAT PICK - Antone Alexander Team Race This will be a two team race between Warren Central and Perry Meridian. This will come down to which team can get their "bad" kids to place. For Perry 126, and 160 are pivitol for the Falcons to have a chance. As for the Warriors, they need production from their 126 and 285. There are slo big semi-finals matches that will impact the race at 106, 170, and 182. 106 The first weight in this tournament is up for grabs. Carmel freshman Brac Hooper is having a solid year and seen as a slight favorite in this field. Plainfield’s Ty Nuetzman comes in with 1 loss on his record to top ranked Alex Cottey. Ranked Wrestlers; No ranked wrestlers 113 This weight is highlighted by a pair of top 10 wrestlers. Carmel’s Suhas Chundi has been having a great season and brings in an undefeated record. He will be challenge though as the favorite in this tournament as Monrovia’s Ben Dalton looks to add on to his already dominant season. Cameron Allen of Plainfield may be the only one in the weight who can prevent a Chundi, Dalton finals. Also look for the tough freshman from Castle, Ashton Hayhurst, to be a bracket buster. Ranked Wrestlers: #2(at 106) Ben Dalton-Monrovia #7(at 106) Suhas Chundi-Carmel #14 Cameron Allen-Plainfield Hoosiermat Pick-Ben Dalton 120 Returning state placers Devon Casebolt and Carson Eldred look to be head and shoulders better than the field, and we should see a rematch of last year’s state quarterfinals. Returning state qualifier Noah Gardner, Carmel’s Aj Gunn, and Franklin Central’s Nick Morton are in this field and will look to take out the Castle senior. Ranked Wrestlers: #6 Devon Casebolt-Castle #10 Carson Eldred-Westfield Hoosiermat Pick-Devon Casebolt 126 This is a weight where everyone will be wrestling for second. Yorktown’s two-time state champion Brayden Curtis is the favorite here and I would be shocked to see him get dethroned here. Delta’s Payne Blackburn and Plainfield’s freshman Landon Boe look to round out the top 3. Ranked Wrestlers: #4 Brayden Curtis-Yorktown #16 Payne Blackburn-Delta Hoosiermat Pick-Brayden Curtis 132 Plainfield’s Logan Boe brings in two state medals in two years and look to put on a show. Carmel brings in an undefeated senior in Kyle Holman who is as tough as they get and won’t let Boe’s resume affect him. Ranked Wrestlers: #3 Logan Boe-Plainfield Hoosiermat Pick-Logan Boe 138 This is a wide open weight and there are multiple kids who could finish on top of the podium. Bloomington North’s Justice Cash looks like the top wrestler in the group, but look for him to be challenged by Evansville Central’s Brayden Bethe. Ranked Wrestlers: #13 Justice Cash-Bloomington North Hoosiermat Pick-Justice Cash 145 Plainfield’s LJ Burdon and Guerin Catholic’s Jeff Dunasky are the two best kids in the weight class and should see each other in the finals. Castle’s Brooks Hartz and Bloomington North’s Luke Arthur are two guys looking to make the finals at this weight. Ranked Wrestlers: #7 Jeff Dunasky-Guerin Catholic #14 LJ Burdon-Plainfield Hoosiermat Pick-Jeff Dunasky 152 This may be the deepest weight of the tournament. Two-time state qualifier Eric Hiestand is the early favorite but he will have a long list of guys looking to take the top spot on the podium. Carmel’s Gabe Davin, Hamilton Height’s Dreiken Dunn, Edgewood’s Austin Heckman, and the freshman from Terre Haute South Nate Lommock will all be up for the challenge. Ranked Wrestlers: #10 Eric Hiestand-Yorktown Hoosiermat Pick-Eric Hiestand 160 This is another weight led by a multiple time state qualifier. Southridge’s Tucker Schank is the favorite here at this weight. Hamilton Height’s Bobby Williams bring in a similar record and looks to take a leap into another tier with a win over Schank. Ranked Wrestlers: #6 Tucker Schank-Southridge Hoosiermat Pick-Tucker Schank 170 Westfield’s Kyle Saez and Carmel’s Logan Hart both already have wins over retuning state qualifiers and look to continue their already great senior seasons. Plainfield’s Jacob Platt brings in an undefeated record and will get tested for real for the first time this weekend. Terre Haute South’s Brendan McPike also has the potential to get a few upsets and finish on the top of the podium. Ranked Wrestlers: #4 Logan Hart-Carmel #7 Kyle Saez-Westfield Hoosiermat Pick-Logan Hart 182 This is the toughest weight in the tournament l. The winner of this weight will put the state on notice as a title threat. Iowa state placer LeVon Bellamy has been dominate this year and is the on paper favorite. There are 3 other wrestlers in this weight that boast undefeated records; Martinsville Will Nix, Carmel’s Cameron Bacon, and Evansville Central McKinley Kemper. Westfield’s Ryan Mahoney and Greenwood’s Jacob Stover round out a very tough field. Ranked Wrestlers: #2 LeVon Bellamy-Edgewood #10 Cameron Bacon-Carmel Hoosiermat Pick-LeVon Bellamy 195 This weight is loaded as well with Greenwood’s Nick Wilham leading the pack. Right behind him though are Castle’s Will Nunn, Martinsville Griffin Stone, Westfield’s Sam Melden and Carmel’s Jack Heldt. Ranked Wrestlers: #4 Nick Wilham-Greenwood #11 Griffin Stine-Martinsville #12 Will Nunn-Castle #16 Jack Heldt-Carmel Hoosiermat Pick-Nick Wilham 220 Undefeated Junior Micah Dodson, of Martinsville, is the favorite and will look to walk away with his title at Mooresville. Franklin Central’s Marion County Champ Deshawn Young has been having himself a great year and will look to keep the train rolling. Carmel’s Haakon Van Beynen is undefeated at this weight as well, but will be challenged for the first time. Ranked Wrestlers: #12 Micah Dodson-Martinsville #16 Haakon Van Beynen-Carmel Hoosiermat Pick-Haakon Van Beynen 285 The big guy field at this tournament will be a tough one no matter where you get put in the bracket. There are 6 kids that could legitimately win this weight; Franklin Central’s Antone Alexander, Plainfield’s Jack Biddle, Mooresville Robert Gentry, Terre Haute South’s Allen Haire, Southridge’s Wyatt Kramer, and Yorktown’s Holden Parsons. - Coach Of The Year 2019 | Hoosiermat
1/3 Zach Errett And Staff Avon Description: This award goes to the coach, and staff, who has elevated their team the best. Breakdown: Coach Sean McGinley was able to win ba ck to back state championships, and put 3 kids in the finals. Coach Darrick Snyder and the Bulldogs of Brownsburg came into team state as the 4th seed and went on to take the dual title. Neither of these two will be taking home this award. Cathedral came into the season as a heavy favorite and had somewhat of a let down at team state, but was able to bounce back downtown. Coach Snyder has a case because he graduated 4 guys last year with a combined 14 state medals, and was still able to come away a title. However, there’s one staff that we feel elevated their team the best. A team that no one saw doing as well as they did, and that team would be Coach Zach Everett and the Avon Orioles. Avon came into this season as somewhat of an unknown. We knew they would have their hammers, but outside of that we didn’t know how the team would look, or even how good those hammers would do this year. Avon put everyone on notice at team state when they nearly took out top seeded Cathedral, before tearing their way through the backside of the bracket. All their efforts showed at Banker’s Life where they took 7, placed 4, put 3 in the finals, had 2 champions. The Oriale’s efforts also got them a trophy as they finished second at the state tournament as a team. - MIRACLE NWCA COACH OF THE YEAR
ARTICLES MIRACLE NWCA COACH OF THE YEAR MANHEIM, Pa. — On Thursday, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) announced the NAIA Women's Wrestling National Coach of the Year Award and Campbellsville's Lee Miracle earned the honor. Coach Miracle is in his seventh year as head coach and his squad took home a runner-up trophy from the NWCA National Dual Championships while capturing their second Mid-South Conference and WCWA National Championships. "The NWCA is proud to honor Coach Miracle, and for the amazing job he has done at Campbellsville. He has built the CU Tiger program into a national powerhouse," said Mike Moyer, NWCA Executive Director. Presented annually, this honor goes to a coach who has demonstrated outstanding effort in developing and elevating their program on campus and in the community. The coach of the year awards program is presented by Defense Soap, the official Hygiene partner of the NWCA. Miracle has led the Lady Tigers to two WCWA National Championships and now has 14 WCWA Individual National Champions in just seven seasons. In 2019-20, the Lady Tigers won their second WCWA National Championship including three individual national titles - Mariah Harris, Abby Nette, and Alexandra Castillo. Campbellsville ran away with the national title by over 130+ points over Life University, which finished runner-up. CU set a new WCWA record with 13 All-Americans as well. Miracle delivered the program's first team national championship in 2018 after the Lady Tigers earned 196.5 points to win the team title by just five points. He coached his daughter, Kayla Miracle, to her fourth-straight WCWA National Championship and she became just the fourth individual to do so. Grace Bullen also was a national champion during her freshman campaign at Campbellsville. The 2018-19 season saw more individual accomplishments for the Lady Tigers with four Mid-South Conference Champions, an NAIA National Champion, and the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Year. McKayla Campbell won the MSC Women's Wrestler of the Year, Andribeth Rivera was an NAIA National Champion in the Inaugural NAIA Championship event for women's wrestling and the four conference champions included Rivera, Koral Sugiyama, Mariah Harris, and Alexandra Castillo. This award was scheduled to be presented on the eve of the NAIA Women's Wrestling Championships at the University of Jamestown. Unfortunately, the championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NWCA will recognize the 2020 national winners during the NWCA National Convention awards luncheon. This year's convention, presented by Cliff Keen, Defense Soap, and Resilite will be hosted on July 31 – August 2 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino located in Hollywood, Fla.

1/1 Toby Billerman Perry Meridian Description: This award is given to the wrestler who came out of nowhere to make it to the state tournament . Breakdown: This award is given out primarily to guys who were not varsity a year ago but come out firing on all cylinders when its their time. There were a lot of deserving wrestlers this year, such as Crown Point's Athony Bahl, who had a win over the state champion at the weight below him. Evansville Mater Dei's Evan Seng looked good this year as well with a 5th place finish at the state tournament. However, I went with the highest placer of the bunch and that was Toby Billerman. Billerman had no bad loses and slew of great wins on the year. He was close to sending the state champion in to OT in the semis at state before settling for a 3rd place finish. Billerman was also dominant against several guys who were on the podium this year. - FIVE BOILERMAKERS EARN AA HONORS
ARTICLES FIVE BOILERMAKERS EARN AA HONORS WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Five members of the Purdue wrestling team received All-America honors Friday as seniors Dylan Lydy and Christian Brunner, juniors Devin Schroder and Griffin Parriott and freshman Kendall Coleman were all recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) for their outstanding accomplishments from the 2019-20 season. The group marks Purdue's largest All-America contingent in program history as the Boilermakers last had a group of at least four national honorees in 1950. With the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Championships, wrestlers were denied the opportunity to compete for the traditional achievement of a top-eight finish garnering All-America honors. As a result, the NWCA made the decision to honor the top-eight seeds with first-team recognition, 9-12 with second team and 13-16 received honorable mention. "It's fantastic to see our guys honored for the hard work put into this season and the things they achieved," said Purdue head coach Tony Ersland. "No one wanted to see the season end the way it did, but to see the NWCA make this decision and honor our guys for having a fantastic year is the right thing to do." Lydy, Brunner, Schroder and Coleman all earned First Team All-America, as Lydy was the highest-seeded Boilermaker at No. 4 at 174 pounds, Schroder was the No. 5 seed at 125 pounds and Brunner and Coleman were the No. 6 seeds at 197 and 157 pounds, respectively. Parriott adds Honorable Mention All-America to his resume on the strength of his No. 16 seed at 149 pounds. The quintet are the first wrestlers to earn All-America honors in Ersland's tenure as Purdue's head coach. Lydy had one of the best seasons in program history, amassing a 31-2 overall record which stands as the No. 3 single-season win percentage all-time at Purdue. He won both the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and Midlands Championships, becoming the first Boilermaker to win both tournaments, and went on to take third at the Big Ten Championships. His 111 career victories are tied for eighth most all-time at Purdue, while he finished 13th in the record books with 267 career takedowns. Brunner is 1-of-12 wrestlers in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships in each of his four seasons, and is the highest-seeded 197-pound wrestler all-time at Purdue. With his season nearly cut short due to a knee injury at Rutgers, Brunner battled back to earn an automatic qualifying bid at the Big Ten Championships and finished 25-6 on the year. He was runner-up at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and won the Midlands Championships. His 98 career wins are 18th all-time at Purdue and he finished ninth in program history with 220 career back points. Schroder had a breakout junior campaign, posting a 26-5 record that included a runner-up performance in Las Vegas and a second-place effort at the Big Ten Championships. He led the Boilermakers in total points scored and dual team points, in addition to his 156 back points which ranks sixth on Purdue's season record board. His 390 career back points are already third all-time at Purdue and his career win percentage of .725 is No. 16 all-time for the Boilermakers. Coleman is just the sixth Purdue freshman to earn All-America honors, and the first since 2010. He posted a 29-8 record at 157 pounds, winning the Michigan State Open and placing fourth at both the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational and the Midlands Championships. He became the first Boilermaker rookie to advance to the Big Ten Championship finals since 1947, and led the team with 95 takedowns, the most by a Purdue freshman since 2010. Parriott went 16-11 at 149 pounds in his junior season, which included a fourth-place effort in Las Vegas and a sixth-place showing at the Big Ten Championships as the No. 10 seed. He had wins over five different nationally ranked opponents during the season, including two at the conference tournament to climb the podium and earn an automatic bid to nationals. Purdue crowns its first All-Americans as a program since Ivan Lopouchanski took seventh at 149 pounds in 2013. The program now has 58 All-America honors in its history, and is coming off its top Big Ten Championship finish since 1992 as the Boilermakers were fifth at the conference tournament on March 8, scoring 83 team points. Based off the national seeds, Purdue was projected to finish seventh at the national tournament, and was just 5.5 points shy of fourth place and a coveted team trophy, and Boilermakers' eight national qualifiers tied a program record for the second straight season.

"We feel like this year's schedule features some great challenges and will have us ready to succeed come March at the Big Ten and NCAA Championships." The Big Ten schedule begins Friday, Jan. 10 with the Boilermakers heading back to Northwestern for the conference opener, and returning home Sunday, Jan. 12 to host Iowa. Purdue's annual rivalry bout with Indiana follows Monday, Jan. 20 in Bloomington. Purdue has two duals in each of the following weekends, heading to Maryland and Rutgers on Jan. 24 and 26, respectively, and then hosting Minnesota and Wisconsin on Jan. 31 and Feb. 2. The Boilermakers' homestand continues Feb. 7, hosting Nebraska for the final home dual of the season and the conference slate wraps up on the road Sunday, Feb. 16, heading across the state line to face Illinois for the Big Ten finale. The postseason opens with the Big Ten Championships on March 7, hosted by Rutgers at the RAC in Piscataway, N.J. and the Boilermakers return six national qualifiers with plans to head to U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the 2020 NCAA Championships. Purdue awaits word of potential television broadcast matchups from the Big Ten Network, and all duals are subject to change based on that schedule.
